Like all of the footwear, these are lovingly handcrafted by artisans in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Tengries are made from large sheets of wool felt that is cut and hand-sewn into shape. As a result, they’re far softer and more pliable than the rolled felt house shoes. With their non-slip rubber soles and elastic laces, they’re designed to adapt snugly to little feet, while still allowing little ones to pull them on with ease. The result? Shoes as cozy as a warm hug.

Talk to me about the rubber you use for the sole

Walkabouts are made with vulcanized milk or rubber. The result: a sole that looks and feels very similar to crepe rubber, but is more durable, pliable, and less sensitive to heat.

All of the house shoes have been made using low-impact dyes and are chemical-free, while the Tengries use a thicker, vegetable-tanned leather on the sole — a tanning technique that avoids highly toxic chromium that can leach into and pollute waterways. As a result, the leather provides a thick, cushioned layer that adapts to your feet for absolute comfort.

How can I keep my Kyrgies clean?
